Day 26: Cultura

We did Day 25 in class, but you can watch the video on Day 25 to reinforce what we learned.
Today is Day 26. You should be watching the culture video on the tango. Next week you are working on a writing assignment describing yourself in 5 sentences. Just follow the instructions. If you have any questions about the assignment after you read the instructions, let me know. YOU WILL READ YOUR ASSIGNMENT OUT LOUD TO THE CLASS NEXT WEEK FOR POINTS!!! Keep studying the other vocabulary words we’ve learned so far so you don’t forget them.

We found this video to be adorable. Tango is a famous Spanish dance popular in Argentina.

Day 16-17: Vocabulario – Los Adjetivos y Nacionalidades Los Adjetivos y Los Números

Today is Day 17. You should have a long list of vocabulary words copied into your notebook or on flashcards—whatever helps you learn best. This applies to Days 18 & 19 for definite and indefinite articles.

This week, there will have a very brief quiz on the new words in Days 16-19. Study and be ready! We will also go over last week’s quiz (which was more like a test, but that’s okay). This is a chance for anyone who didn’t do as well as they would have liked to on last week’s quiz to bring their grade up. It will be an oral quiz to allow those of us who work better orally to shine🌞

We will skip Days 20-24.
(I think I can hear the roar of 16 people celebrating 💃🕺🏻🎉🎈

We will learn Day 25 in class this Thursday.
There will be a presentation based on Day 27 (a description of yourself in Spanish) due Oct 4 which we will discuss in class this Thursday.

Looking ahead, there will be NO CLASS OCTOBER 18 & 25 during which you will be working with a buddy online or over the phone on Days 30-44–helping eachother study, practicing with eachother, etc.

Nov 1: Quiz#3 and two assignments from Days 37-41 and Day 43 are also due.

First Quarter Grades will be available Nov 8.

Again, I want to congratulate you brave people who are learning this new language for the first time!!! I know this has been a challenge and you have risen to that challenge 🏅
Remember, you goal is to LEARN SPANISH so you can USE IT in the future for whatever circumstance God might have in store for you. See you Thursday. 💌

Day 15

Do the quiz and matching activity. No new notes.

We will have our first in-class quiz this Thursday on everything we’ve learned in these 3 weeks. Don’t panic. Just study your notes and you will do just fine!

Day 13: Palabras Interrogativas & Day 14

You can do both of these (Day 13 & 14) on Tuesday.  They are brief and no note-taking is necessary.

Day 12: La Hora

Days 11-15 General Info

In class I stated that I didn’t like the worksheets and quizzes in this curriculum because they sometimes expect you to know things you haven’t learned yet. However, I’m taking a look at this week’s worksheets and quizzes and they seem to be quite helpful. I recommend you go ahead and do them (as your internet service allows) as a way to practice and test yourself to see if you’ve learned the material. Disregard the questions that require you to know something you haven’t learned yet. 😉

Day 8: La Hora

Watch this video as well for Telling Time.
It also teaches how to say the time of day.

https://youtu.be/PvPh6-9BgQU

To tell time in Spanish, you need to know how to say the numbers above 30. Here is a video that reviews how, in addition to some very important conversational questions and answers on how to use numbers regarding cost, your age, phone number, and address. Please take notes carefully with this video. We will practice these questions and answers next time we are in class.

Once you’re proficient in counting to the higher numbers, use this video to practice telling time. Pause and answer to give yourself a chance to think and really test yourself.

Day 5: Los Números

The day number 5 assignment can be printed out or you can just number a piece of paper from 1-10 and write the answer in SPANISH. So if the answer is 1, write “uno”.

In GA, you can get a learner’s permit at 15, and there are 9 innings in a regular baseball game.

Quiz question 3 translation:
“Which is the day traditionally for resting or going to church?”

Question 5 tip:
“Todos” means “all” or “every”

We will go over this in class and play a game like this.

The quiz asks you about the seasons, which you haven’t learned yet. Here they are:

The Seasons = Las Estaciónes
Winter = invierno
Spring = Primavera
Summer = Verano
Autumn = Otoño

It helps me to remember the root words of three of the seasons come from the Latin “ver” as in “verde” which means “green”:

INvierno=NOT green
PRIMAvera=first green
Verano= green

And check out this article on the etymology of the word, “otoño”—very close to the word “autumn.”

Looking forward to our class this Thursday at 2:30PM. I have a fun surprise for everyone!
